THE THURSDAY PREVIEW - ITS FINALS TIME!
22 Aug 19

Welcome to the Junior Grand Final preview, Under 19’s Elimination final Preview and the Seniors and Reserves let’s get through the weekend without any injuries preview…

Yes a lot to digest this weekend and it’s all
Proudly brought to you by Darebin RSL – the proud host’s of our under 17 Presentation night. Situated at 402 Bell Street Preston, just down from Bell station, a long time supporter of the club, go along and enjoy the bistro which is open 6 days a week for lunch and dinner with the exception of Saturday lunch with a great range of entrees, mains and desserts. Bookings are available for our bistro by simply calling reception on 9484 4353.http://darebinrsl.com.au

So the main focus of course is on our two Junior Grand Final teams the Under 11’s and 14’s. Both teams will head to Diamond Creek for the big dance, which is great for our travelling fans to be at the same location.

The 11’s will be the first to take the field as they take on the undefeated Montmorency Black. “Undefeated” would indicate they are a pretty good side and they have beaten us three times this year so we’ll go in as massive underdogs – a clear advantage for our kids. All the pressure is on Monty and I’ve seen it happen in the past when undefeated sides go into a Grand Final and just don’t get it done. When it’s all said and done, you only have to beat them once! To our fabulous Under 11’s – dare to dream. Arrive ready to play, turn up the pressure and give it your best. Win or lose, know you have made your club very proud. We wish you the best of luck. It all kicks off at 10.00am

Next up, the under 14’s will enter the field at 11.50 to take on Bundoora Park in the big one. Unlike the under 11’s the boys will go in a warm favourite so will have to guard against everything written above. Bundoora will bring the heat as they look to cause an upset. We go in on the back of a 10 game winning streak which includes win’s over Bundoora Park in Round 7 by 45 points and the second Semi by 18 points. The semi was a hard fought affair in difficult conditions, but our boys have faced and handled every hurdle so far and now it’s the home straight with just one more fence to jump… Best of luck boys. Hear’s to singing that song one more time this year….

Also on Sunday and in a clash of times our Under 19’s will take on Lower Plenty out at Whittlesea in the Elimination final at 9.40. After storming into the finals on the back of some good wins, the boys will be looking to carry that momentum into the business end of the season. Lower are a good side. In our only meeting for the year they got the better of us, but the boys have improved greatly since that encounter back in round 11. Playing some good hard contested, team footy the boys will go in quietly confident of a good result. Well done on getting to the final boys, but let’s look to extend the season a little bit longer – 4 more win’s… Why Not?

Back to Saturday, and the seniors and reserves will travel to Macleod for the final home and away game of the season. Both sides have locked in finals action. The reserves after last week’s strong win have a double chance and will look for some fine tuning before heading to PCO. They take a 6 game winning streak in to the encounter included in that was a hard fought home win in round 13. Scotty will be looking for another win to carry the momentum in to the finals so will have the boys fired up and ready to go.

The main match throws up a few interesting questions. With our spot in the finals secure after last weeks polished win at Bundoora we’re locked into an elimination final regardless of the result. Do we rest some boys with a few to the finals or does Robbie go for a full dress rehearsal?? Get along to the rooms tonight for the teams that will give you an early insight.

Either way it will be a tough encounter. Macleod have to win to make finals and hope that Monty lose to their relegated neighbour in Lower Plenty. The Bears would love nothing better than to take down Mont in their final Div. 1 game for a while and Macleod would love nothing better having lost the last 3 grand finals than to have another crack at an elusive flag. The action will be hot and I’ve a feeling we’ll be up and about. The momentum has been building for a while now and you can feel the excitement in the air around J.E.Moore Park. I reckon Macleod will be on mad Monday next week… 2.10 get along and cheer the boys on.

That’s the playing side done. We have three big Junior grand finals at Home this weekend, including the showcase under 17 Premiership decider. It’s a great acknowledgement to the club to be given the honour of hosting this one – a testament to the way we put on a show, our facilities and the ground condition, not to mention the sensational food out of the canteen!

We have great feedback from all the visiting sides over the first two weeks of finals and the NFNL as well. A big well done to all those that have given up some time and effort to help and will again this weekend…if your free and not heading to Diamond Creek or Whittlesea, the more the merrier!

Know doubt our two Grand Final sides will be heading back to the club Sunday afternoon to wind down after a great season and hopefully revel in the glory of two premiership wins. Good luck to both sides and the Under 19’s in the elimination final.

That’s it.. fingers crossed for a great Rooster weekend….

See you at the footy.
