What a weekend it was. Only 7 games, but highlights a plenty in some of the wildest weather we have seen this season. We’ve hardly seen any mud this year, but boy did this weekend make up for it!

Let’s start with the finals and our Senior women have bowed out of the Premiership race after going down to Diamond Creek Women’s out at Epping in tough conditions.

The effort of Niall and the Ladies this year cannot be underestimated. Moving up to Division one, a large number of new recruits who had never played before and to then make the finals is a great achievement.
And what a game! At Half time Diamond Creek would have been a touch nervous as our girls matched them contest for contest and trailed by just 7 point’s. Unfortunately they eased away in the second half to record a 33 point win and bring down the curtain on our season. It was a great ride – well played ladies.
Now to survive mad Monday, then rest up enjoy a break you all deserve it – Well done.

The Juniors had 3 sides in action on Sunday, starting with the under 11’s heading to Barling reserve to take on Eltham for the second week in a row. I’m happy to say the result was the same as round 14 with our kids saluting the judge at the final siren and booking a berth in the Preliminary Final next week. It was a slow start by the kid’s, not scoring in the first quarter but only down by 2 points. From there our game kicked into gear. Keeping Eltham Goal less for the game and slotting 6 through the big sticks, in the end winning by 37 point’s – a great result. The show goes on another week with a cut throat Preliminary Final against Laurimar Teal next weekend. Well done team and good luck for next week.

Out at Lalor the Under 14 boys took on Bundoora Park. We took an 8 game winning streak into the game and I’m happy to say it’s extended to 9 and now we put up our feet and await our opponent for the Big Dance….
The boys set it all up in the first quarter taking a 19 point lead into the first change. The final margin of 18 reflected the evenness of the contest after that but we did enough to hold them at bay and can now enjoy a week’s break and await the winner of the prelim next week. Enjoy it boys, but remember there is still one big game to go…

Out at Watsonia all the damage was done very early as the under 15’s took on the very impressive Yarrambat who bounced out of the blocks and effectively had the game won at quarter time, kicking 6.2 to our 0.2. From there the boys battled hard and in the end went down by only 19 points. As coach Phil said – you can’t’ give good teams a start like that and expect to win a game of footy! The wonderful thing about finishing second is you get another chance. The boys will re-group and get ready for another big challenge in South Morang next week. I wouldn’t under estimate these boys… Good luck.

Saturday and the under 19’s came to play, which is lucky as the weather was abysmal the ducks across at the lake would have enjoyed it more, but job done, 4 points in the bag and with Mernda doing us a massive favour beating Laurimar the season is still alive, heading to the final round for the 19’s next week. It’s a simple equation we head to Hurstbridge and have to Win, and then hope that Mill Park do us a massive favour and down Laurimar – that’s a realistic possibility. Lets Get it done Boys.

For the Reserves another 4 points was locked away with a solid win. With two games to go we’re locked and loaded for finals actions. Iit’s just a case of holding onto the double chance over the last two weeks with Monty still nipping at our heels. One more win will do it. Its a good test next week against the second placed Bundoora and it would be good to get a win over them prior to an anticipated finals clash. Well done Scott and the lads

In the main game normal service was restored with a solid win over Hurstbridge by 15 Points. Nothing fancy in this one, just a tough hard slog for 4 quarters and a win in the bank and back up to 4th on the ladder. We head to Bundoora next week in another big clash were a win should secure finals action for this year. Get along and cheer the boys on.

Not often we’ll make mention of an opposition player here, in fact never before but we’ll make an exception this week and just shout out to Daniel Keenan from Hurstbridge who played his 400th senior game against us on the weekend. A brilliant effort! It was great to see the club make a presentation to him in the rooms after the game, Well played Daniel, your milestone did overshadow the achievements of one our own favourites, Mitch “Choco” Rodda who filled the 23rd man role on the weekend with the seniors in his first taste of Senior footy. Well done Choc, here’s to many more.

So we still have our 3 juniors sides in action which is brilliant. Game venues and times to be advised for the 11’s and 15’s, with the 14’s resting up. Senior’s and Ressie’s are off to Bundoora next Saturday, while the 19’s head to Hurstbridge for the final game home and away game for them (didn’t we just play them in the one’s? Don’t get me started… ).

Another big week ahead.

In the words of the all-time great “Porky Pig” – That’s all Folks….

See you at the footy and Go Roosters!
