Well a quiet weekend in terms of games with the kids enjoying a break from footy and more importantly School! But we did still have some major action at the Older end of things. Saturday the sun shone and the 19’s kicked some butt out at Hurstbridge. The boys were switched on from the start and this one was never in doubt. 186 points being the final margin. The must win games keep coming with a Friday night affair this week against the Bulldog Bloods.

Sunday unfortunately brought no joy with all 3 sides finishing on the wrong side of the ledger.

The Ladies headed out to Montmorency where a very even opening term had us right in the contest at the first break but from there Monty proved that little bit to strong over the final 3 quarters pulling away for a 39 point win despite our best fighting efforts.

Back at home and the reserves were in action against the unbeaten Greensborough and took a lead into the first change. By halftime it was a 5 point deficit and game on. 4 goals to 2 in the third had us trailing by 23 with a quarter to go. We threw everything but the kitchen sink at them in the last and would have thrown that it we could have got our hands on it, but as the siren sounded the margin was 24. A terrific effort but not to be for Scotty and the boys. I’m sure Greensborough will be hoping not to cross our path come finals time.

That left the main course with Greensborough taking an 10-0 record into the main game. We started brightly testing the best and took an 11 point lead at quarter time which could have been more with 10 shots to 4 on goal.

They turned up the heat in the second but we still held the slenderest of leads at the main break but that’s were the good story ends. No way to sugar coat a 15 goal to 5 second half.so we won’. We played the best in it and they showed us why they are setting the benchmark for all to follow.

Our first half was promising and a taster of what we can do when playing well, of course footy’s a 4 quarter game and that’s what Robbie and the boys will be focusing on going forward. We’re still right in the mix and head to Lower Plenty next week looking to bag another 4 points and keep the pressure on those above us.

That’s it – kids enjoy the last week of school holidays and we’ll see everyone back next weekend as we enter the business end of the season.

Go Roosters!
