Scotty played 150 games with West including one A grade game. Last game played was in 1992, Premiership player U18 in 1978, Coached U 11 in 1986 to 1989 and U13 in 1990 Coached Reserves team in 2019 to Prelim Final, reappointed for 2020 and 2021 (prior to illness) Was on the Senior Social Committee in 1983, 84, and 85. He was an avid Sunday cricketer as well. Scotty was a keen member of several golf clubs and if you were lucky enough to be in his group would entertain you with tales tall & true all the way round and after. Scotty was heavily involved with Yarrambat junior FC supporting his family(life member in 2008) Scotty was involved with Bundoora FC for 9 years before coming back home to West. Scotty was loved by everyone fortunate enough to meet him and had time for everyone. Buzzy would hold court every night with a tale or yarn about his days events. One of the greats who will be sadly missed. Jack, Bonnie and Ribs are all Life Members of RLFC Jack loved being involved at Lakies, whether it was making numerous deliveries and pick ups for the club in the famous IPEC truck or hosting the Boot Club at each game or being at the rooms every Saturday and Sunday from 6am getting them ready for Home games and the infamous Bonanza Sunday’s or just the more sedate PSM’s or the Family Home hosting a Lakies function, Jack loved it all. When Lakies were really in need of a steady hand in troubled times the club could always turn to Jack and the family and they never let the White and Red down. Thanks to all of you for spreading the message and to our senior Captains for wearing the zero jumpers, which hopefully resonated with a lot of people watching from the sidelines. Importantly though, the Towards Zero message shouldn’t be limited to one round of football. We all hope that the round was a catalyst to ensure that all of us think twice before we step into our vehicles. Hopefully it started a discussion between parents and kids, between players and between supporters and members of our club. The message is pretty simple, let’s plan and work together to eliminate serious injuries and lives lost on Victorian roads. So as some of us finish football for another year and others head towards the excitement of finals let’s all make sure that we take care on the roads – slow down, don’t use the phone, follow the speed limit, don’t drink and drive and pay attention to road conditions. Then a service at West Preston Lakeside Football Club for all Richards friends to say goodbye. 2 pm Friday 17th Sadly the club says goodbye to a true character who bought a smile to everyone every time he returned to the club. Richie “Golden Boots” Laidler or Dickie Bird passed away on Friday in Japan after a long battle with illness. Richie was a part of the 1978 Under 18s Premiership that produced a lot of great people who still volunteer at the club. He played 95 games (31 A Grade) with the club. Every time he was back in Australia he would always catch up with minimal fuss about his battle but more intent on catching up with the plight of the club and the many friendships he had made. Richie wasn’t bad with the cricket ball either playing with Carlton & Darwin Cricket clubs then going onto coach the National Japan AFL Football & Cricket Teams. Son Jeremy played AFL with Carlton & Swans. Our deepest sympathy go out to his wife Atsuko and the Laidler Family.
