MATCH REPORTS 2017 - THE "AROUND THE GROUNDSMAN" ROUND 9 2017

THE "AROUND THE GROUNDSMAN" ROUND 9 2017

The Around the Groundsman.

Well it was great to be back at the footy after celebrating old Lizzies Birthday, I hope you all enjoyed the time off, but it was back to business on the weekend, with some great footy action over the two days.

The home Sunday action kicked off with our 9 Red side on the top oval, with coach Manny refreshed after a nice overseas break hosted Eltham Black and in a highly entertaining contest, clearly the break was no hindrance to the team as they put in yet another polished performance.

Next up was under 9 Yellow team taking on Northcote Blue after a breakthrough performance before the break the team put in yet another sterling effort against a quality opposition in classic encounter with heroic acts all over the field this went to the wire and while unofficially of course we may have been a goal behind, it was a another win in the eyes of all who proudly watched on.

That was the top ground action for the day, on the main oval was the under 10’s who hosted Montmorency, Now Ive been lucky to see this great little side play quite a bit this year, but never before have I seen so much excitement coming from the Coach, it may be something to do with his beloved Blues actually looking like a real side. if they keep up this improvement they might actually give the under 10’s a run for their money in the near future, but until that time the boys turned on another scintillating display of football that left the faithful in raptures.

Next up was the local derby in the under 13’s with our boys taking on Reservoir in the battle of the Lake, this was a great team performance by the boys who picked up the form line from before the break and gave Lizzie a late birthday present with a polished display of team footy.

The home action finished up with our senior women looking to extend their winning streak to 7 against Diamond Creek in a top 5 Block buster. Our ladies duly delivered with yet another stunning display of team footy, next up another testing encounter Darebin which will test our premiership credentials.

On the road, the under 11s headed out to the country to take on Hurstbridge. Fresh from a last start win, it would appear the break came at the wrong time as a sluggish start had us chasing the game, as always the team played it hard and fought it out till the end, but found Hurstbridge that bit better on the day. No doubt the Legend will be in touch with Bolts this week, for some tips on turning it around - it’s only fair Bolts gives something back.

The under 12’s were at Mernda and they also appeared to struggle early after the break, slipping behind early, only to fight back in typical Rooster fashion to frighten the life out of Mernda but ultimately come up short but again showed great fighting spirt. A big thanks to the Linesman for filling in at training on Thursday night as Dave the Messiah winged his way back from Mexico.

The 15’s headed out to Mill Park and played out a classic, this was footy at its best, big marks, great goals, crunching tackles and in the end Heartbreak as Mill Park hit the front for the first time late in the final quarter and held on to win by a goal. Again our boys can be proud off a great team effort with just that little bit more luck then the result could have gone our way, but again the boys have pushed a top side all the way.

Our 16 girls headed out to Whittlesea and again displayed the team ethos that has them eying off greater prizes come August with yet another solid victory over a quality opponent.

While the under 14’s and 17’s had an extended break with a bye this weekend, that will have thejumping out of their skins come next week.

On Saturday the seniors were at Eltham in another must win clash to consolidate our top 5 position. The boys duly delivered with a great team effort to get the four points, while the game will not be remembered as a classic, keep your eyes out for the NFL plays of the week. There should be a mark of the year contender for you to gasp at! The reserves continued a solid season with yet another

comfortable win, while the under 19’s lost no admirers with a very competitive effort against the top team.  The senior boys are away again next week against Heidelberg - get along and show your support.

Off the field the netball courts are nearing completion and will be a great addition to our facilities. Ladies Day is on the 8th July this is a highlight of the season its gets bigger and better every year, sdon’t miss out on the action get your tickets early (details to follow). The seniors play Northcote Park on the day, put it in the diary and dont miss out.

And that is a wrap for this week, it was great to have the footy back, see you around the grounds.

Go, Roosters.
