Yes we’re off to the big one again…. For the first time in club history we’re in consecutive Grand Finals in Division 1 and of course will be looking to go “Back to Back” for the first time…

But forst, lets’ start with the Reserves who unfortunately bowed out on the weekend going down to Bundoora for the second time this finals series. The boys fought hard all day but it was not to be and the curtain came down on the season at the final siren.

While it won’t feel like it this morning, it was a successful season. Making finals and winning one is a step in the right direction. Scott and his coaching team are to be commended on all the hard work and dedication they have put in over the course of the year. To the players who gave it their all, week in week out, we take our hat off to you, say well played, enjoy a break and we look forward to seeing you all back on deck at Preseason training.

Cast your minds back just 15 weeks after round 6 as our senior players sat in the away rooms at Heidelberg with an 0-6 record. Things looked a little grim to say the least! Now fast forward to Yesterday as the boys sung that song loud and proud. We’re back in the Grand Final and a chance to go back to back…

Wow, what a ride.

Sunday was tough, hard footy as you would expect with a spot in the Grand Final at stake. To be honest, it was not our best performance for the year, but there is one thing you can be sure about with these Rooster boys – they play hard, they never ever give up and will fight it out to the end, and that’s just what they did on Sunday – they found a way to Win.

We did get off to a good start leading by 18 at the first break thanks to a couple of late goals. We kicked the first in the second quarter but from there it was all the Bulldogs who kicked 4.7 for the quarter missing some gettable shots and keeping the door ajar. The third was pressure at its best, no inch given, none taken. By the break we held a slender 2 point lead. The coach asked for one more effort. A chance to defend the crown on the big day was in our hands. The first 4 goals of the final quarter against the breeze had the heart rate getting back towards normal. Despite two late goals to the dog’s, the final siren was music to Rooster ears 12 points in front and a date with Greensborough.

Well played boys, but there is still much to be done… Prepare well and know the Rooster Army (family) is behind you 100%.

To all our supporters, Get to the Rooms for what promises to be a huge night on Thursday, and keep your eyes on all our social platforms for updates etc on the week. Of course get to the game on Saturday… (more to come on Thursday).

It wasn’t just a big weekend on the field but also off it as the junior presentations were held. First was a great night on Friday at the Darebin RSL with the under 17’s gathering to celebrate not just the year but the end of Junior football for these great young men. It was a terrific night. Special thanks to Paige Galvin-King for all the organisation of the evening and to Jarrod and James who took the coaching reigns this year, and did a fantastic job. It was clearly obvious on the night the mutual respect between the boys and the coaches. Well played to all, and Jarrod now you have spent a year at the Roosters and fallen in love with the place, we’d like to think we’ll see you back in some capacity next year. And for the record you and Jimmy are naturals with the microphone in hand. Well done.

Then Saturday the sun shone brightly as the rest of the juniors gathered at J.E.Moore Park for a terrific day, full of fun and laughs, and some terrific food thanks to crew from Chew Burger who well and truly kept us fed throughout the day. Now you’ve had a taste of the wonderful delights they have on offer, pop into 147 Plenty Road during the offseason for a great feed. As always these days don’t go off without enormous planning and help on the day, you know who you are, so take a bow! On behalf of all the players and families, Thank you.

We’d also like to thank our other great Sponsors, Harvey Norman Preston, Train insane and Florida Cheese on their kind donations towards our raffle prizes, Thank you all for you continued ongoing support.

It was a terrific day. Ccongrats to all the award winners and all our junior players, coaches and helpers. You are all Winners – after all you have chosen the best club in the World to play for.
