So to the Action and we have a big day at home on Saturday with a major milestone to recognise and of course Ladies Day!! … Drum Roll Please.

Congratulations to Shaun Barker who will grace the field wearing the Red White and Blue for the 400th Time this weekend when the reserves take on Lower Plenty (that’s assuming he doesn’t get the call up to the ones). What an amazing achievement! Shaun will play his 297th senior age game Saturday, to go with a highly distinguished 103 game junior career, joining the legendary Ken Louder and the Great Bradley Sanderson in the 400 game club.

In the last year or two Barks has found true love and now his winter weekends are consumed with football, Playing Saturdays and taking on match day roles with the coaching staff with the Senior women’s team on a Sunday, while always having a supportive word for the younger players in the club in particular the under 19’s boys and mentoring our premiership winning 16 girls last year. Shaun is a true Rooster and we wish you all the best for Saturday and beyond. Well Played.

While we’re on Saturday the 19’s are at home taking on Mernda from 9.30. The lads produced a goal feast last week and will be looking for more of the same this weekend. They should expect a tougher game this weekend from Mernda so will need to be switched on from the opening bounce!! A good warm up should help with that boys…. Just Saying.

Then it’s the Reserves who bounced back to form last week against Heidelberg recording a big win. The action kicks off at 11.55 against Lower Plenty. I’m sure the team will be fired up to give Barks a win on his big day, wonder who will carry him off??

Finally, assuming all goes to plan the Seniors will break the duck on the year and give us 3 wins for the day. it was a much better effort last week against Heidelberg with some promising signs on display. A similar 4 quarter effort this week should see a much needed 4 points heading our way.

Rounding out the senior side of things the Senior Women get the weekend off with a bye. Good timing really as there may be a sore head or two after Ladies day winds up. With the long weekend to follow the Ladies will not be in action again until they take on Monty at home on the 16th of June.. Enjoy the break ladies.

Of course Auskick will be rocking on the top oval from 9.00 hopefully this weather warms up a bit before Saturday morning. The upside is with the seniors at home for all you parents you can pop down to the canteen for a delish bacon and egg roll, coffee or doughnut… Mmmmm.

Friday Night is Netball night and haven’t our Girls been making waves as the new girls on the block. They’ll look to turn up the heat this week when they take on the Heat Netball Club at RMIT University court 2 form 8.50 pm on Friday night, looking for back to back win’s, good luck team.

Sundays junior action is quiet on the home front with just the 3 games to grace the sacred turf…

We start with the under 11’s looking to bounce back to the winners list when they have Laurimar Teal popping in from the very respectable start time of 10.15am.

Then it’s the 14 Girls combine, fresh from win number 2 last week they host Wallan in a return clash having played each other in the grading games, Wallan got the better of us then, but the team continues to improve each week under the esteemed tutelage of the Messiah and this will be a good test to gauge that improvement, 11.45, don’t be late.

And it wraps up with the 17’s up against Research. This should be a high quality affair as our boys will still be smarting from last week’s effort so look for a spirited response come 1.15pm.

And that’s it for home, early finish to prepare for the Mid – season review. Our travelling Roosters this week…

Both the under 9 red and blue teams are taking on sides from Montmorency at Simms street, the reds from 10.15 and Blue from 11.30, a smorgasbord of entertainment to be had.. Good luck teams.

Northcote Yellow will host our under 10’s from 9am. Two talented units going at it..

The 13’s head to Diamond Creek for the second time this year…. We got them the first time around, coming off a fighting effort last week the Legend will be looking to go 2-0 against the creekers. This was a cracking game last time, with the game in the balance well into the final quarter. Expect more of the same from 11.30, giving the coach enough time to dash to the G for dare we say it a Blues victory??

Fresh from a great win last week the 14 boys have the early season pacesetters in Bundoora Park this week, the action will be hot don’t miss a minute of it from 12.

Our high flying under 15’s face their toughest test to date as they take on South Morang blue don’t let the ladder position fool you. This will be a test of our mettle, 11.45 at Lakes Boulevard.

Rounding out with the 16’s who have the longest trip of the day venturing out to Laurimar a 1.15 start time, giving them plenty of time to head back to the home of Football for Sunday nights function we hope with the 4 point tucked away in the boot of the car. Quality opponent promises highlights a plenty!

And that I reckon will do us for today. Thanks for your time, enjoy your sporting weekend.

Go Roosters.
