Before we get to the activities, May 20 – 26 is “National Volunteers Week”. I’d like to think we appreciate ours each and every week, But just in case, Thank you! A club our size does not run without the hard work, time and effort of our Volunteers, and the great thing is there is always more room on the Volunteer Bus. Many hands make light work, So when you look at the special volunteer out there going about their stuff, just ask yourself, not what your club can do for you, but what you can do for your club???….. Stole that from somewhere… someone famous, but Seriously a Big Thank you to all the Volunteers who put this show. Enjoy your week!
Its a A packed weekends coming our way. Some must win games in the seniors and fun fun fun at the Bottom end of the Juniors. It all kicks off tonight of course, Meals are back on and the rooms will be pumping in anticipation of the action to come. We also have the under 10’s and 11’s in the house, enjoying a feed and of course the opportunity to have a run with some of the senior boys at training. The big fellas might be asking for a tip or two on how to play the game.
Should be a great night and of course you get to hear the senior teams first hand, you can also get your Memberships, just ask for Dooga and he’ll fix you up. Better the money goes to us than to Heidelberg if you’re travelling on Saturday. You can also get your Harvey Norman VIP card for just $20 dollars.
Raffle tickets are still available of course, the draw is fast approaching, you don’t want to miss out. The Draw is June 2nd so get a wriggle on!

To the Playing action, and it’s a smorgasbord of excitement to titillate the tastebuds this weekend…
It all kicks off at 7.20 Friday night at RMIT Uni court 3 when our Rooster gals, take on the ladies of Mernda 5. This Promises to be a bone crunching affair. Get out there and support the team as they take to the court.
Saturday Auskick of course will again be in full swing. The laughter can be heard miles away as the kids go through their paces and learn all the skills that will take them to the big show.
The under 19’s are going solo again as they head to Greensborough from 9.40am. The boys will be looking to put the disappointment of last week’s effort to the side as they look to get back on track. I fear for the Slime, the boys are pumped for this one, get along and show some support.
It’s then a quick dash to Heidelberg which according to Google maps tells me is just a 14 min trip, which would have you at the Reserves games very early in the first quarter. The boys have been there about’s in games of late but just not able to get the job done. it won’t be any easier this week, and the Tigers have already put one over us this season, so Revenge will be on the minds, can we deliver? You Bet we can…
To the main game, and it would be an understatement to say we need to Win! Simple as that. An 0-5 start is not ideal and not what we expected. The boys have been hard at it over the break and you can expect them to come out breathing fire and brimstone. Do Rooster actually breathe fire?? Guess we’ll find out Saturday. Strap yourselves in from 2.10 at Warringal Park, with your newly bought membership ticket.
Sunday sees the senior women also back in action. After the dust settled on the grading process our ladies have landed in Div 1. Makes sense we did win the Div 2 flag last year after all, it will be a challenge, but Niall and the Ladies are up for it. This week they head to Darebin Falcons 1 just down the road at A.H.Capp reserve located at 196 Miller street, so nice and close, no excuses to not drop in and cheer loudly from 3.00
Onto the junior side of things. We have 6 home games to keep us entertained, Both under 9’s are at home this weekend, with the Blue team taking on Eltham White on the top deck from 9am while at the same time down on the big ground the Red team are at home against the local neighbour in Reservoir. Now I know the old saying about love thy neighbour and all, and I know we don’t keep scores in under 9’s but it is Ressa and well you always want to get on up on them, so strap in for some sizzling footy.
The under 10’s are next in line from 10.15 as they make Northcote Blue very uncomfortable with their daring and dash, should be a beauty….
Next in line the under 11’s host Montmorency Black in an early season blockbuster. Both teams have been in fine form to start the season, and it really is an 8 point game this early in the season, as we look to put a dent in their perfect record, action kicks off at 11.45 take your seats early , promises to be a classic.
We then jump a few age groups to the 16’s, looking to bounce back from last week with a clash also against Montmorency. With both sides sitting 3 and 2 on the year, it’s another one of those 8 point games, 1.15 is bounce time, don’t miss it.
The home stanza finishes with the Under 17 up against Eltham. Over the years these two have clashed many times, quite often in very memorable encounters. No more so than the home draw last year, that will go down in the annuals of history as an all-time classic. Expect more of the same on Sunday at 3.00pm. There is no-where else you should be ( unless of course you’re at the senior Women’s that is acceptable, but no where else, after all it’s only St. Kilda v Carlton on the telly and let’s be honest, you’ll get a better standard game watching the Roosters….. (sorry Legend)
On the road, the under 13’s head North to take on the very good Laurimar Black outfit who sit perched upon the top of the ladder 5 weeks in. This will be a challenge for our spirited crew, who will be up for the fight. I just hope the Legend has crawled out from under the rock he has been hiding under since late last Sunday afternoon…. And I guess that’s why they call it the Blues… Thanks Elton. Oops Sorry 11.30 it all kicks off, that would leave enough time for a quick dash to Marvel if you were so inclined and if you like horror movies. (sorry again Legend)
The under 14’s also have a local derby with a difference taking on the combine of Reservoir/Thomastown. They will have to make the trek to Thommo’s ground for the clash, from 11.45. As previously mentioned in this and other previews – if there is one game you have to win each year, it’s the local Derby with a difference….. Should be a good contest, expect a fast start as our crew have been in cotton wool for a few weeks thanks to the bye last week. Make sure you’re in position for the first bounce, good luck guys.
Our under 14 girls combine make the trip to Mill Park. Thanks to a quirk of the draw we only played each other two weeks ago, which resulted in a resounding win for our girls. That’s no guarantee of a win this time around and the Messiah will no doubt be stressing that to the girls, the past counts for nothing. He’ll have them all revved up and ready to go from 12.00 at Kelynack Reserve, good luck young ladies.
And that leaves the high flying undefeated excitement machine that is the Under 15’s. This week they take the show up the highway to Wallan to allow the country folk to experience what it’s all about. First bounce is at 3.00pm.
Expect another high quality performance from the lads.
And that is that… a wrap as they say in the classics.
Enjoy the weekends action.
Go Roosters.
