So the Weekends footy action commenced at South Morang with the Under 19’s the only team in action from the seniors this week, this was apparently to bring the Div 2 section of the under 19’s in line with the Div 2 senior side of things for down the track as Finals are played the week before Div 1. Are you still with me? So I’m a little confused as to why the boys had to trek out to South Morang this weekend when there were no Div 2 Senior games and they have now played 1 game more than the senior teams in Div 2.

Not sure if anyone can help me with that?? It’s a bit like “his intention to climb the post was not to shake it, but to well just climb it, maybe get a better view of the kick? “ Makes no sense…. And don’t get me started on Ablett and Fyfe’s elbows…. Anyway I digress my apologies…..

In the game that should not have been played till next week(ok I know, let it go). The boys gave it a red hot crack but it was not to be on the day. 4-11 to three quarter time told the story of missed opportunities and the 35 point margin was a bridge to far. The last quarter was a bit of a shootout with 11 goals slotted through the big stick but the end result was a disappointing 30 point loss. Still, lots to like at times and much to work with. It Was great to see the Senior coach and footy manager out there, no doubt looking to see who can put some pressure on our senior boys who need to step up this weekend – more on that Thursday.

Back at J.E.Moore Park the next generation was having a ball on the top deck learning the skills, making new friends and generally just enjoying themselves. Nigel and his team a re doing a great job with these rising stars!

Sunday had 4 games at home kicking off with the under 9 blue taking on Research Rebels, if you want to sell the game of AFL to the world then just send a DVD (do you remember those? Round thin things, shiny you put them in a machine and it plays on your TV) of this game overseas, wonderful advertisement for our great game.

The 14 Girls combine was next up against Diamond Creek Women’s Red and after last week’s stunning performance were looking for more of the same. Alas it was not to be, but not from a lack of trying the girls gave it their best shot. The scoreboard was not an accurate reflection of the effort and determination shown. As always, the Messiah was upbeat after the performance. Well done Young Ladies!

Next up the 13’s hosted Northcote. Two evenly matched teams and the contest proved it but when the dust settled they had taken their opportunities while we wasted ours, The Legend bemoaned the turn overs and wasted opportunities after the game. No admirers were lost in the process and with a bit of fine tuning on the track this week the boys will bounce back next round.

I just hope the Legend who rushed off to home to watch Blues still has a pep in his step. Perhaps you should take the boys down to Princes Park this week Legend – show your other love a thing or two about heart and desire…

The day rounded out with the Under 15’s continuing the roll against Montmorency, in yet another polished team effort from our boys who remain undefeated after 5 rounds and really are a must see ticket item on a Sunday afternoon. This one was put to bed early and the boys coasted home to the tune of 60 points, keep it up boys.

On the Road…
Under 9 Red were at Mill Park Blue and lit up the morning with a determined performance one that warmed the hearts of all in attendance.

The 10’s took on Fitzroy Star’s. In what was a wonderful exhibition of football on display from two terrific outfits the score was lost in the excitement as both teams provided a highlight reel for the ages.

Up the highway the 11’s Trekked out to Laurimar to take on the Power. The kids flew out of the blocks quicker than Usain Bolt in a 100 meter final, setting up a 54 point half time lead, Laurimar fought hard in the second half but we still came away with a fantastic 74 point victory. Next up a top of the table clash at home with Monty Black. 11.45am – put it in your diaries now…..

The under 16’s were on the end of a Masterclass from a very strong Yarrambat side.
While the boys fought it out to the end, the Bat’s were just too strong on the day. Some work to do, but the wonderful thing is, there’s another game next week… Heads up boys.

And closing it out for the weekend, the under 17’s put the disappointment of last weeks last minute loss recording a brilliant come from behind win at Greensborough, The boys led by 19 at half time but saw that disappear in the third quarter, going to the final break 2 points down and all the momentum going the other way. No one told our lads! In a gripping finale the lessons learned from last week proved crucial in the dying stages and when it was done, 11 points our way was something to sing about.

If you wondering about the under 14’s they successfully negotiated the Bye, but will be back in action next week in the “You cannot lose the Local Derby” Clash!

Taking a hike back to Friday night the Netballers took on North Heidelberg 5, in a very competitive effort they got the better of us late on but a very encouraging performance by the ladies going down 22-15 at the final whistle.

NFNL Rep Footy – Great effort by our WPLFC player, with the NFNL mens side getting the chocolates over the GNFL team. Great effort! Our Womens side couldnt make it a double but our own Cat O’Bryan took out the BOG on the day! Good to see Roosters on the big stage.
