WPLFC UPDATE RE COVID-19
18 Mar 20
Members, Players, Supporters of the West Preston Lakeside Football Club,
The Committee would like to take this opportunity to update you on developments related to the COVID-19 virus as it relates to our club.
As you know we’ve been closely monitoring the situation and yesterday the NFNL made an announcement in relation to the 2020 season (see attached). Senior and Junior Football and Netball seasons have been postponed until Saturday May 2. The league will review this on a regular basis but will make a firm decision, on whether to progress or further delay the start of the season, on April 14.
It is disappointing for all of us to be faced with this situation as the season promised so much, but protecting the health and wellbeing of our members, volunteers, players and supporters as well as their families, is our first priority. With health and wellbeing as the priority, we will take the necessary steps to contain and delay the spread of the virus as a community.
From a club perspective, this means that we will cease all practice matches, training and gatherings at the football club until further notice. It is key that everyone follows these instructions. The planned Season Launch and other events are postponed until later in the year.
This will be a tough time for the Club and it’s members physically, mentally and financially. So it’s important that we stick together and ensure we look after one another so we can come out of this as strong as we are today.
The Rooster community is an inclusive, caring and supportive one – let’s make sure we stay connected and work through this together. Importantly, if you find yourself in a difficult situation either physically or mentally please don’t hesitate to contact the Club and talk to Andrew (Club Chaplin), Sean or Jane (Club Welfare Officers) (phone numbers on website – http://www.westprestonlakesidefc.com.au/ABOUTUS/WELFARECONTACTS.aspx) and ask for assistance.
We thank you for your ongoing support of the Roosters, and please stay safe and healthy. We will continue to work closely with the NFNL and Darebin Council and we’ll be in touch with further updates as they become available.
Go Roosters!!
The Committee
